Δ Project Work in retrospect (:
21 October 2013, 00:04
I just saw this confession on RJ Confessions and I thought it would serve as a great quote to start this post that I've been wanting to write since in the afternoon.
"Printing out your friggin 80-page final draft of Written Report and binding it as a group really feels like the best way to almost end your Project Work journey. It's like.. it's like being there as a husband when your child is being born..."
Many people complain about PW, because of its marking scheme, assessment format, questions, groupmates, you name it. But ironically for me, I loved PW, I enjoyed slogging till past midnight to fix the nitty gritty details, to just churn out that one perf~ piece. When the final report was printed today, it officially marks the last and final lap left. I felt happy, that kind of contentment from seeing something you've worked on for so long be finalized is just indescribable (for me/with my command of language at least). I asked myself, "what did I learn from it?" And the answer was heart, sweat and people skills. This might not be the case for everyone, but purely my own experience and reflections I guess.
Heart: If you want to enjoy it, you've got to love it. I started off my PW journey wanting to do another topic that interested me more. But I learnt to respect the decisions of the group and to adapt myself, to open my mind and to start loving what I do. I stopped complaining and I started learning; to start learning and being cognisant to new issues that never occured to me in the past. And I started to enjoy it.
Sweat: You've got to put in that extra effort, to take the initiative. I remember that one time our group fell shot of expectations when communication broke down while working on the second report draft. I think that was a good reminder (and wake up call actually) that someone's got to put in that extra bit of effort to collate, to communicate, to lead the discussions and get the group going. If everyone takes on a laissez faire attitude or is only concerned with nothing but the 20% or 25% of work allocated to you, don't start complaining because that's not effort.
People skills: I have a great group, undeniably, and I think that makes up for 99.9% of our PW experience. Haha I remember the day that groupings were first announced and when we first settled in, the guys were all talking in the cryptic #brocode. We eventually came together very well as a team, I guess mainly because we put in our effort, but not only in producing good work (yes we all want that A as stated in objective no 1 of our group charter) but rather to learn from each other. We were lucky to have a group of people with varied strengths. We weren't an all-power team but we tapped on everyone's strengths and helped each other in our weaknesses. My team-mates encouraged one another, gave praises, said thank you, but we also pointed it out when someone wasn't putting in their best.
While it takes the heart and the sweat to have enjoyed PW, I think it takes the most to learn and build the people skills. When working on OP, the saying that goes "people don't remember what you said but they remember how you made them feel" is always being emphasised, but what I'm trying to say here is really that the saying does not only point out the way to score for OP but rather, it encapsulates the whole spirit that PW is trying to emphasize on. Effort can get you somewhere but the PW experience... it's all about the people at the heart of it. If all you think about is yourself and all you're willing to do is to remain in your comfort zone, then I'm afraid PW wouldn't be your cup of tea.
(Ohkay I really don't think that was coherent but well) so I'd really like to take the chance to thank my groupmates here. Thank you Daniel, Beatrix, Qiwei and Teeyong :D Im looking forward to xiaolongbao buffet, like really lol.
I need to bridge the gap between food and I. Ok nvm.
(On a side note, I'm really scared for results tomorrow. Ugh. )

"We're hipsters. They're not. :B at least I'd like to believe that"
I thought it sounded pretty nice (except that it should be "believe so" instead of "believe that"..) and I'm all ready to hit the publish button (yay), until kimberly said that sounded like Matthew. So ohkay. Bye that's just weird. ._.

*hugs my blanket of comfort*
Δ YAYYYYYYYYYYYY POST PROMOS.
02 October 2013, 23:23
Promotional Exams are finally overrrrrrrr :D (Hopefully I don't have to take retests or anything like that >_<) But today has been a pretty good day, other than the fact that chem paper was really really difficult (which means I'll most probably be getting my
Superb results again). Anyway, after the paper, Cheryl gave me my really really belated birthday gifts cum after promos gift haha. TVXQ ALBUMSSSSS :DDDDD *the inner yilei is doing a happy dance* (ohkay stop judging alr). Seeeeee your good friend just knows exactly what to get for you for your birthday. (: Anyway, after that the rest of the RI peeps and I went to have lunch then to hand up our cheques for the french trip. Omg, lunch was all fried food (Long John's), but it's good so well, one last fatty meal before the exercise and calories regime starts. Woohoo and I'm getting excited for the french immersion programme too, really looking to travelling to another part of France which I haven't explored. Anyway after that, Kayyang, Alicia and I went to catch a movie, Prisoners. We wanted to watch Runner Runner (which is some action packed, fast and furious kind of movie) but it was M18 so well we ended up watching Prisoners which is the most intense thing ever. (A little synopsis, it's basically how the dad of one of the girls/the detective are trying to solve the case of the missing daughters) They just don't reveal the whole story to you, even right till the end. You'll come out of the movie theatre wondering what really was the relationship between the three of them and when it hits you in the face, you'll be pretty much speechless (maybe, other than for the word wow. ) Nonethless, I have to say that it got a bit repetitive and annoying halfway through when one of the dads kept using violence on this mentally retarded guy. I'm just like enufff of the blood omg. It's not cool, I get that the dad is super pissed and annoyed and trying to put all the blame onto this guy illegally and unethically, I would say, so can we move on already please? -__- Haha but it was really pretty good a movie :D Oh and we went to the library before the movie started. Yayyy how long haven't I went to the library just to read already! Really love flipping through the books and stuff. Haha I really love how "nerdy" the RI kids are. You find them in the library even after the exams, but this time, they're not mulling over those crazy past year paper questions, but doing something they really enjoy, which is to read, be it some lame chick lit or some serious science non fiction. I really love it, nerds are cool. B)
Sorry for putting everything into one long paragraph but today was a pretty decent day and I guess time kinda washes away the bad things that happened within the past few days? They're not exactly resolved but I guess there's improvement.. And it's time to move on the happier things (:
So here's a short list of things to do on the top of mind now: PW Oral Presentation (Yayyy I really love my PW so well :-D ), Club camp or outing or something for us to get together and do rubbish together heheh, work on some type, probably themed on the french trip, something personal or just quotes, then uhm I want to have a movie marathon, and I really really need to pack up stuffs. And I want to go to USS before my half year pass expires too (: And yeah probably try painting if I've got the time. And yeah, shopping and photog if I have the time (: Lalalalala. Byebye, sorry for the long, rambling nature of the post today.
:D
