CHEONGYILEI
Me, I don't eat (most of) my veggies. I enjoy air-conditioners on humid mornings, ice-creams on cold evenings and sleeping on rainy nights. I'm a dreamer and a kpop lover. I like dark red roses and bright yellow sunflowers, but I hate artificial flowers. I like travelling and daydreaming a lot better than annotating literature texts though I like libraries, bookstores and thick a4-sized notebooks. I think its fun to scribble stuff - words, quotes, pictures, symbols - in my notebooks. I have a tendency of writing notes on foolscap and losing them ): Oh, I think I want to dye my hair red when I grow up. And and and, I think its pretty fun writing this.

Haha with all this urbansketch movement of drawing at the moment, maybe I should be cool and do an urbanscribble thingum. The music's not crazy and high but definitely quite awesome for setting the mood for writing stuff. It's been a while since I've had publicly individual time like this and it's pretty awesome. Hehe so stay tuned for a disjointed post on... Pretty much everything.
Gone gone gone away I watched you disappear. Sometimes these lyrics strike a chord. Remember those times where this song was played during rockout? The feeling was really different, there was a tint of sadness and yet a truckload of craziness. The adrenaline rush seemed to wash rationality off me. But nowadays here in sutd, I think I have learnt to let go off myself more during the everyday but the craziness seems to be muted. Maybe I've grown up to build more bubbles around me. No. Not walls. Hopefully. But bubbles, sometimes it's like bubbles of illusion but bubbles of dreams too. Been doing loads of things that I want without knowing what I'll reap, without knowing what the impacts are, without knowing if anyone cares. I dont even know I myself approve of what I'm doing but I guess I'll find out soon enough and it'll be too late anyway. Hehe.
So what's up with life these days? I screwed up math exams, results for physics ain't in yet but don't be overly optimistic. Actually, stay pessimistic about it. Been conducting interviews for orientation subcommittee and it's quite heartening to see people come forward to support me. Some have even gone to the extent of saying that they'll help me unofficially and told me not to worry. (: and, as an attempt to properly consider my pillar choices, I went for an ESD information session today. I guess I was quite sad that the stuff they said wasn't quite what I wanted? Ok pause I was quite interested in the economics focus track but I have never had economics before so idk if that's kinda retarded. The business analytics track seems to be the most popular amongst the students there but I'm not sure if it's for me? Like the idea of predictive modelling sounds really cool but the programming and stuff? Idk la. Goodness gracious, sometimes I really hope there's someone who can help me make an informed decision but ya. Ya I think you get what I want to say.

I guess you've guessed by now that this is going to be another of those crazy moments where I try to act deep and think about life. Well yeah, I'm sorry you're right. These few days have been pretty crazy and I've been crazily shifting between chionging math homework, physics homework, advanced math homework, design prototyping, physics prototyping and Cultural Night. It's pretty fun to be that busy that it's physically and mentally demanding. These days I get so tired I just end up sleeping in every other Physics class which unfortunately happen to be the first class in the morning. I just can't focus and I don't have the time to revise eve though my exams are next week. Well, before I continue with the rest of this, here's some of the things that I've been working on recently:-
I've been working with the other cultural clubs in the cultural cluster to make Cultural Night happen and it's kind of cool that it's happening this coming thursday! It's quite cool because this is one of the few times I get to plan events on a school level and it's pretty amazing that I came up with the posters and such. Well, credits to the people who did the font and the geometric shapes, but hey I put them together x: For the first time, I also got to draw on the black board? (Many thanks for all the wonderful people who used to design the black boards at RJ because those were a precious source of inspiration - how did they make them so pretty?!) In any case, it's a blessing to be able to work with seniors this time round because they have much more experience in planning events and they made sure that things were on track. Whenever people look to me for things and I get overloaded or am simply clueless, there always seems to be some senior whom I can reach out to for help - for that I'm really thankful. Although I've been really stressed out and such, I really look forward to thursday (which is unfortunately a day after math exam on weds and a day before physics exam on fri). Anyway, if for whatever weird reason you happen to be reading this, please buy the macarons from French Connection. They look really legit and yes, I've pre-ordered a box for myself.
Upcoming stuff: Orientation! Damn excited for this and this is the reason why I titled this post as such. It's only the planning of Cultural Night and I'm already so stressed up. Furthermore, term 3 is going to be a full blown 4 academic modules. Woohoo, good luck. The o'comm exco just met up on thursday and we also met up with the o'comm exco 2015. Not one of them said it was easy but from the way they were spoke to one another, one thing was clear - they had fond memories and had built some awesome synergy right there. Another time to be thankful for supportive seniors because the previous director took time to talk to each of us, whoever was taking over the position. And so I was talking to Ryan, the previous Programmes Director and if there was anything from the short conversation that I want to keep in my small head, this is it: (something along the lines of) If you chose to be programmes, then I believe there's some craziness in you. All the programmes director before me have been damn crazy one la. Just do what you want, it's all up to you. Just choose a good team that you can work with, learn to be firm in your stance when you have to. It will reach a point where you constantly ask yourself why you are doing this, then, just think about why you joined in the first place. "JIAYOU! Its gonna be tough journey but a really fulfilling one! Gimme a text if u need some help!" Maybe I'm getting old and weak but casual words of encouragement like these really get me going these days. So yay, I'm really looking forward to working with my o'comm. Maylizabeth's Project Director, Asatha's Assistant Project Director, I'm Programmes Director, Michael's Logistics Director, Xin Yu's Finance Director, Wei Jun's Welfare Director, Abhipsa's doing Creative Media and Ming Kwang Publicity. (:
See, it's times like this where I get to reaffirm my love for HASS. Whoever thought humanities and etc was boring, please take on the challenge of this badass we call HASS.
So we talked about Adam Smith today in class, and I really subscribed to the idea of self interest? Like how even the concept of sympathy, to me, is simply a tool for self interest. It is only because one is able to project the possible consequences that one is able to self-gratify through the act of "benevolence". When I was talking about it with my friend after class, she disagreed with it. What surprised her even more was my acceptance of myself being driven by self-interest and my own recognition of how this can translate into selfishness at times.
But this got me wondering: is self interest necessarily selfishness? The negative connotation that the term possesses bothers me. From another perspective, it seems as though self interest is an instinct and a prerequisite for the idea of a self, an individual.
